We are pleased to announce that we have received our first major contribution of the 2018-2019 Campaign Year from Highland Machinery Corporation in Oak Hill, WV. President and Owner, Bill McClanahan, met with United Way Staff, Campaign Chair Donnie Holcomb and Co-Campaign Chair Nancy Kissinger, as well as members of the press on Tuesday, May 1st to announce the incredibly generous donation and celebrate a great start to our fundraising campaign.
Each year, the community counts on the United Way to meet our fundraising goal so that we can continue to provide grant support to smaller organizations with less fundraising capacity, continue to put shoes on the feet of children in need, and provide information and referral services to families having to choose between buying groceries and paying their power bill.
The sizeable donation from Highland Machinery highlights how successful, local businesses have identified giving back through the United Way as a meaningful way to help their neighbors in need. “People struggle from natural disasters, fires, floods, all these different things. But sometimes people just fall on hard times too and it’s good to know there’s somebody there that you can reach out to that’s willing to help you,” McClanahan said when asked what inspired him to give to the United Way.
