When disasters strike, rural communities encounter distinct challenges that intensify their impact. Complex federal funding processes can leave these areas underserved, with resources scattered and access times prolonged post-disaster.
United Way of Southern West Virginia, in collaboration with donors, nonprofits, and community partners, is equipped to help. Our well-established system for handling large volumes of online donations and our network of volunteers and partners enables us to mobilize and provide resources during critical times.
United Way of Southwest Virginia has activated the Southern West Virginia Disaster Response Fund.
This fund is a financial resource to deliver immediate assistance following natural or humanitarian disasters. Designed for rapid deployment, the funds will support emergency response efforts, including food, shelter, medical care, and other urgent needs for impacted communities.
The fund’s primary goal is to ensure resources are readily available at the start of a disaster, empowering relief organizations to act swiftly and efficiently. Community members will be encouraged to contribute year-round to help UWSWV maintain and grow the fund, ensuring it’s ready when needed.
